A Walk Through the Decades

"A Walk Through the Decades" by Mia Kolaras is a narrative fashion series which explores the ever-changing fashions and cultures of women’s fashion throughout a span of multiple decades, starting in 1910 and finishing in 1990. Each decade’s photograph takes a look at popular clothing from each era and explores how women’s clothing has changed through multiple decades of fashion. With each era depicting popular clothing of the set decade, the series aims at celebrating women and how far we have come within the fashion community in really only a singular lifetime.

These photographs tell narratives of a changing society and it’s changing fashion cultures. Women’s clothing has always reflected changing ideas within society, and even discussions about women’s bodies over time. Fashion can evolve which leads women’s confidence as to what they want to wear evolve, too. The overall aim of the series is for women, of all ages and cultures, to see themselves within these photographs.

Series featured in Third Year Show & Calibrator Magazine, Issue #1

Parts of this series were featured in TMU's School of Image Arts Third Year Show "Inhale, Exhale", and IMA's student-run Calibrator magazine's Issue #1. "A Walk Through the Decades, The 1920's" was up on display in the Third Year Show and print catalogue from April 24th, 2026, to May 3rd, 2026. "A Walk Through the Decades, The 1950's" and "A Walk Through the Decades, The 1990's" were included in the show's print catalogue.

"A Walk Through the Decades, The 1930's" and "A Walk Through the Decades, The 1990's" were published in the first print and digital issue of IMA's Student-Run magazine, Calibrator Magazine.
